Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing involves establishing a presence on the social media platforms that are appropriate for your small business.

This will bring you closer to having potential customers find and visit your site.

After all, the best designed website in the world is useless if no one knows about it .... ... and bear in mind that even if you are one of those people who doesn't use social media platforms for personal purposes, literally hundreds of millions do, and they represent an opportunity for promoting your business that cannot not be ignored.

That said, what are some social media platforms, and which ones best fit your business?

Businesses of all types should have a Facebook Business Page and perhaps even a Twitter account.

Brand visibility in these virtual communities allows you to keep your potential customers up to date on events related to your small business, give them a way to inform their friends about the quality of your goods and services, and thus helps people to recognize the relevance and legitimacy of your site.

Scorned and mocked by some, MySpace is another social community, which is particularly pertinent for entertainers, as it offers simple means for offering visitors samples of your music, band, stand up comedy routine, or performances of all types.

They've done some recent updates worth checking out!

YouTube is a social media platform that allows users to post videos.

You might want to post videos related to your business in some way (e.g. an event in your town), or a video that is an advertisement for your business.

Members can indicate that they found a video entertaining or useful by clicking the 'thumbs up' button.

LinkedIn is a social media platform primarily oriented to people offering professional services.

This allows businesses, employees and potential employers to connect, as well as make public recommendations for others.

There are many social and business networks to get involved with and can be quite overwhelming.

I prefer to take a step back, keep an open mind and try to think outside the box when developing a social media marketing plan.

Time is money, especially for a new, small business on a limited budget.
